INTERACTIVE JAM SPACE

Interactive smoking space with light and sound that change by cigarette brand

KAYAC created an interactive smoking space at Tokyo Design Week venue.

The smoking space has a device that detects a smoker’s move to place ash in a tray and a device that identifies a cigarette brand.

Light and sound change according to the smoking action and the brand, and a dance music pattern is created.

Four ash tray stands work as step sequencers for making dance music and play a part such as “lead,” “bass,” and “chords” based on the drop of ash.

The scheme of changing dance music based on the move in the smoking space generated random jam sessions of smokers, which was favorably received.

The ash trays were manufactured by Amauchi Industry and music was produced by invisible designs lab.
