What is the KAYAC style?

3:Dice-salary and Smile-salary

Dice-salary:

KAYAC’s pay structure is as follows

  • 1:Basement salary
  • 2:Performance-based salary
  • 3:Fifty-fifty split salary
  • 4:Dice-salary

Basement salary depends on your age and skill level.
As the years pass the employee (he/she) will get more as both the company and employee improve themselves.
Performance-based salary depends on how well (he/she) the employe has performed. To know there’s something only he/she can do and understand its market value.
That’s important.
Fifty-fifty split salary is a bonus. Paid twice a year.
We want to share our joy when we are doing well because we are both on the same boat.
It’s important to compete, as a team member however, go easy on competing inside the company.
We want you to do well in team competition and reach for a total of 5 when adding 1 plus 1.

And finally; Dice-salary.
As the name suggests, it’s a monthly event to shoot dice before payday.
“(Spots on a dice)% x basement salary” is added to the salary.

Do you think it’s crazy to decide salary with a dice?
It will never decrease your salary, it always adds to your salary.
Anyway, don’t you think an evaluation such as this for employees is enough?

We also need to face our own objective evaluation, but we should not be nervous, since there are values we cannot evaluate within the capitalistic criteria.
Such an idea got us to create the dice-salary idea when we started the company many years ago.
Originally we started with three friends sharing their close values, but value to money may change as time goes by.
Every month let’s shoot dice and remember our state of mind.
And after all, in the end only the God’s knows your destiny.

Smile-salary:

It’s a new structure created by our employee in 2006.
It was inspired by “smile ¥0” by a certain franchise chain Ma***nald.

The amount paid is ¥0.

The joy from your job is not necessarily measured by money alone.
How can we make a priceless reward into a salary - That’s was our challenge.

The structure is as follows;
Every month all of the employees evaluate each other.
Who evaluates who is decided in a random manner.
But the evaluation is limited only to the employe’s good points.
The evaluation is written on the pay statement as smile-salary.
For example;
“Thank you for all your careful work ¥0”
“Good job on the... project ¥0”
“You are like the mighty buddha ¥0”
“ You are as dignified as our president ¥0”
“You are the 24/7 day a week person ¥0”
Each of us can check the details why we got a certain smile-salary using the intranet.
It’s wide open to all our employees.
We have a chance to discover a new side to someone by reading their smile-salary.

My colleague looked at my good points in this way and he/she accepts it.
Though it’s ¥0, the value is much more than that.
