2: Kamakura and On-the-Move Office

Unlike the vast majority of young IT and web companies in Japan, Kayac always strives to be different. We have even chosen to be unique geographically too, with our headquarters in Kamakura City rather than central Tokyo. We also stringently handpick our team with unconventional, innovative and hardworking members.

The same uniqueness is true about our offices. Most Japanese offices have a rigid layout, with small groups in rectangular blocks. Not Kayac: our main Kamakura office has desk space in the style of an engawa, the veranda that traditionally skirts around a Japanese house. Our team works along the outside and in the middle there is raised space for brainstorming, meetings, and for our executives to work in their own glass office (and always being watched by their employees!).

As if we could make work even more like a holiday, every year one of our branches takes a couple of months or more to go abroad and work from somewhere completely different. Our On-the-Move Office has visited several countries including Italy, Hawaii and Vietnam. It is a fun and radical way to look at things with new eyes.
